Since its first launch, the DJI Mavic pro has gained a lot of popularity in the drone user community. A truly portable drone, the DJI Mavic pro is one amazing little drone. It unfolds in all the right places and has the right technology, power and affordable price to make it anyone’s first choice if you intend to buy one. The manufacturer made it not as a starter drone but an up to standard gadget that meets your needs only comparable to the much-established drones such as the DJI’s Phantom 4. That is based on its functionality as a smaller drone.

One of the outstanding features of this drone may be its size, we have seen a lot before regarding technology and performance, but we have never seen all those features packed into such compact and portable size. With its ground-breaking design, relatively low pricing, and other impressive specs, the DJI Mavic pro is undoubtedly one of the most impressive drones we have currently. Despite its size and portability, it does not sacrifice any of its performance. It perfectly delivers what it’s meant for.

Drone Design

The DJI Mavic pro is a smaller looking drone characterized with more contours, and angular, sharp edges similar to those of a stealth bomber. In short, it looks more like a crab insect if we could describe in just a few words. Unlike its predecessor, the Phantom series, it does not rest on a built set of stands, but rather sleeps on its belly supporting itself on short legs that extend from the quadcopter arms.

The front quadcopter arms are easily folded into the body resting on top of the chassis while the back arms fold downwards tucking into the underside making the drone easily portable. You can comfortably fit the drone into your backpack and still have plenty of space to store your camera, the controller, and the spare lens. It’s not heavy to carry around. It perfectly fits your hand size making it your perfect choice to move around.

The DJI Mavic pro is not only the best portable drone but also has the best high-end features compared to other drone brands in the market today. Below we are going to look at some of the characteristics that define this drone, the ones that make it stand out from the rest.

The body features a camera and small features that define it from other versions such as the Phantom. When folded it measures H83mm x W83mm x L198mm, a diagonal size excluding propellers of 335 mm. A weight of 1.62 lbs (734 g) (exclude gimbal cover) and 1.64 kg (743 g) (include gimbal cover).

DJI Mavic Pro Camera

The DJI Mavic pro, despite its smaller and compact size, also features a stunning camera that has great capabilities.

It supports a 4K video at 30fps with C4K: 4096×2160 24p, 4K: 3840×2160 24/25/30p, 2.7K: 2704×1520 24/25/30p, FHD: 1920×1080 24/25/30/48/50/60/96p, HD: 1280×720 24/25/30/48/50/60/120p specifications.

The 4K resolution gives the best picture quality for drone cameras; there is no electronic image stabilization. The Mavic Pro Camera employs the use of ultra-precise 3-axis gimbal technology to stabilize the camera even when the drone is moving at high speed.

The camera also features 12-megapixel resolution that takes excellent and quality images; the camera features an active track and optical flow software that allows the drone to identify and evade obstacles. It can use the same technology to track and follow objects; this is a feature that places the DJI Mavic Pro at the edge over other drone cameras.

The DJI Mavic Pro camera features a new video transmission system called the Ocusync that can transmit signals up to a range of 4 miles with minimal or no interference at all. It can stream videos at 1080p and allow photo and video download at a speed of 40mb/s.

The camera also supports a Micro SD card type with a maximum capacity of 64 GB. The supported file formats include FAT32 (≤ 32 GB); exFAT (> 32 GB), photos-DHG, JPEG and videos MP4, MOV (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264).

Battery Performance

Despite its size, the Mavic has a more extended flying time longer than you would expect from its smaller size. In a single flight, it can fly to a maximum flight time of 27 minutes at a maximum speed of 8 mi (13 km, 0 wind). The maximum hovering time is 24 minutes and the overall flight time is estimated at 21 minutes in a typical flight.

Flight Performance

The DJI MAVIC PRO drone comes with a remote control that connects directly to your smartphone, and with that, it gives you better functionality in flight control.

One outstanding feature with this remote different from the rest of the drones is that it has its built-in screen this implies that you will have full control of the drone without having to connect the remote to your smartphone app.

The distance, direction, and altitude are all provided on the screen. The control system also provides you with warning tones and other hepatic feedback features. If you are not fun of using remote controls, you can connect the drone to its flying app on your smartphone and perform all your commands from within your phone.

Some of the flying specifications include a maximum flight distance of 8mi, maximum speed of 9mph, the maximum descending speed of 3.3ft/s in 1m/s and maximum ascending peed of 6.6ft/s in 2m/s. You can also set the drone in the terrain following mode; a mode that is suitable in a hilly landscape.
